My VIP Story – Melissa
How has plastic surgery changed your life?
Well a lot of people have different impressions about plastic surgery. Maybe it changes their whole appearance or they just want to look different. But in my case, when I was 20 years old, I was bit by a dog. Actually it severed the nerves in my lip and it was a very traumatic experience. And when I went to the ER, the doctor there told me “Your lip is going to be deformed for the rest of your life.” I mean who at 20 years old, as a female wants to hear that your lip is going to be deformed for the rest of your life? I was in shock.
So it turns out that the person on call was the best plastic surgeon in America and he was at his residence happened to be there. So he took maybe about 5 or 6 hours to stitch my lip and he did with such care and precision and emotional support and he prepped me for all of the emotions that would happen afterwards of the healing process.
I would experience fear, anger, or frustration, and because he prepped me with what to expect, I was able to process the emotions with much more confidence and I was so grateful for that because it could’ve been a devastating traumatic event for a female at 20 years old. Actually it was one of the experiences of enjoying the healing process. And it gave me a lot of life lessons along the way, but because he took the time to give me the emotional support.
So a lot of people have different expectations for plastic surgery. But in my case, it gave me my life back. It gave me more confidence. Because I was able to see myself in a way that I’ve never seen before. I saw my strength, you know I can’t ever regret that moment and plastic surgery really did that for me.
